PROJECT BRIEF
Other Islands Book Fair is an annual public event organized by Pratt's Graduate Communications Design department, where publishing is treated not just as making books but as an act of gathering, creating
a public, and shaping shared space. Free and open to all, it brings together independent publishers, designers, artists, and community builders on Pratt's Brooklyn campus. The 2026 fair takes place April 25-26 at the Pfizer Building in Brooklyn.
SOLUTION
Other Islands are not defined by established, canonical models.
They form through continual movements: convergence, divergence, and the shifting dynamics within a community. Each interaction leaves behind a new island, new waves that vibrate within and among each other. The branding system reflects the power of collaborative forces and the fair's community-oriented spirit. The logo is a system in motion. Each mark begins as a small island, a distinct individual shape. When these islands meet, they merge, overlap, and accumulate into something larger, a bigger form, a bigger community.
The motion is the meaning: no single island is the final state. Identity here is not a fixed mark but an ongoing process of coming together.
